For Black Perspectives I reviewed the beautiful new volume, W. E. B. Du Bois’s Data Portraits: Visualizing Black America, edited by Whitney Battle-Baptiste and Britt Rusert.
I have a new piece out in the “Big Apple” issue of The Revelator, edited by Eric Schaller and Matthew Cheney. “A Walk Through Teju Cole’s Open City” was inspired by teaching Open City and taking my students on a walking tour of Lower Manhattan.
My October post on Black Perspectives is “The Complex Life of Writer Chester B. Himes” a review of Lawrence P. Jackson’s recent biography of Chester Himes.
(I previously wrote about Himes’s autobiographical novel The Third Generation.)
